I'm not sure what my axle ratio is. Is there a ref. to axle codes I can look up on the internet? From what I could tell from the RT. FRT. axle tube is 2JG C064 2 The RPO code that came in the car from the center console lid is GT4=3.73 The VIN matches But I've never seen 2JG to go with that year, 84 Z-28 HO, 700R4, drum brakes. If anybody has a reference I can look up I would appreciate it.

 

Well, from what I know a JG is a 3.08 ratio open rear end. Bookmark this site, it is the best site for camaro info (1st three gens). That diff. is not the original.

He's right, 2JG or just JG is a 3.08 "peg-leg" differential. That doesn't mean the gears havn't been changed though.

An easy test is to drive the car w/ the tranny in its 1:1 gear ration (3rd or (D) for a 700, 4th for a 5 speed) and cruise at 70MPH. See what your RPMs are, and put a decimal point after the first digit of your RPM and thats approximatly your ratio.

Example:
2.73= 2700 rpms
3.08= 3000
3.73= 3700
4.10= 4100, you get the picture.
