what kind of trany is it?

i have an 86 z28. 395 4bbl. when i bought the car it came with a new trany, i never asked what or why. i go to buy a new stick **** for an 86 z28. 3 weeks later i get it. i go to put it on and it doesnt fit! the stick is twice the size of the hole drilled! is there anyway i can findout what kind of trany it is? i have a serial number but i dont know what to do with it.

Well First off...

395, what sorta wanked bore/stroke Job did you Do to pull that off ?

Secondly, is it auto or manual, 2 3 4 5 or 6 speed ?

need a little more information.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you fat-fingered "305", not that it makes much difference.

Sounds like it's a T-5, and you got a **** from Hurst or something aftermarket like that for one of their shifters, which is 3/8" fine thread, but the stock handle is something like 15mm coarse.

Go to the junkyard. Costs less, looks right.
