Ring gear size
Ring gear size
I need to know what size ring rear I have in my 1987 Trans Am GTA. Is it a 7 1/2? Same as a Camaro? It has the rubber plug in the back cover to fill. It is also stamped 3.21 ratio and not 3.27 the way everybody says they have. Also will I have to have an adapter plate to install a 4.10 or 4.11 ring and pinion?

If it has the rubber plug, it's a 7.75 inch 9 bolt. Good luck finding parts.

Not sure about the 3.21 ratio, but it sounds like a 9 bolt to me. Pull the diff cover and see what is says on the side of the ring gear.
