hey guys i have a 1991 trans am gta with the 5.7 liter and a 700r4 transmission. i am getting a little bit of slipping. it also tends to ride the gears when under heavy acceleration. i was told that the riding of the gears was normal for the 3rd gens is that true? also about the slipping, i just bought the car and the owner told me he had the trans fluid changed. i checked the trans fluid dipstick and it looks like it has to much trans fluid in it. could that cause slipping? and does the lucas stop slip trans stuff work? and i was also wondering if this transmission was electronically controlled or pressure driven?

Re: 700r4
stock 700r4's do tend to do the "ride the gears" thing with a heavy foot. medium acceleration shouldn't slip though, should feel a little firm all gears with no delay between shifts.
fluid should be checked with the engine running in park. IF you CHECKED IT WITH THE ENGINE OFF IT WILL READ HIGH.
most additives are snake oil IMO. I like new dexron 3 for practically everything.
not pressured by anything electrical at all-you could disconnect the electrical and the transmission will still shift all four/it just won't have lockup while at freeway speeds in the torque converter. The t.v. cable that hooks to the engine helps bring the pressure up in the transmission with throttle movement so the adjustment of the cable needs to be correct. Understand?
