Transmission rebuilt and tv cable question

I recently had my tranny rebuilt for my 700r4. The mechanic finally got the gear shifting right(long story). He say's I need to get a need a new throttle cable or it will ruin the transmission. He say all I need to do is buy it and he will not charge me to put the new cable in. I don't think I need a new throttle cable and will probably get a second opinion on this. What do you guys think?

The car runs good and strong now. The car reacts when I press down the gas.

Re: Transmission rebuilt and tv cable question

I'm 99% sure that your mechanic is talking about the throttle valve cable, usually called the TV cable, not the cable to the accelerator pedal. It connects to the throttle plate next to the cable that runs to your accelerator pedal and lets the transmission know exactly how far the throttle is open to help determine shift points. If it's messed up or not set correctly your rebuilt transmission is in for trouble. A TV cable goes for about $20 at the parts store.

I've called the local parts stores and they all have to special order it. Do you know of a website where I can buy it directly?

Carquest has them in stock, at least down here. I would think that any of the usual parts places would have them on-line. Usually, they can deliver to your nearest store and save you the shipping costs.

Re: Transmission rebuilt and tv cable question

if the cable has just a broken end on it, they have a repair end for sale for approx. $3, and you don't have to remove the t.v. cable at all. Most of the time that is the only part of the cable that breaks(it hooks to the throttle body/carb/etc.).. A local transmission shop will know what I'm talking about and will probably give you one for free!!!

Re: Transmission rebuilt and tv cable question

I verified with the transmission guy and he said I needed the kickdown cable which is the tv cable. I actually found one at Napa store. I'm going to take the car back to the tranny shop tomorrow and I just hope they don't f it up. thanks
