Automatic clutches
Hi,
I am about to rebuild my TH-350.
I have already purchased everything I need.
But I just checked out a link in another thread, www.hptransparts.com . and they say that Raybestos Blue Plate clutches are not recommended for street use.
Well those are the clutches I bought.
So my question is... Are they suitable for street use...and if not Why?
Thanks for any info

The steels that are used in the direct clutch pack, are they Kolene (black in color)? If they are, then in the first few hundred miles the 2-3 shift might be a little rough until they seat in. The Raybestos BPS's will work fine, there very expensive though. What type of valve body kit were you planning to use? It should be the Trans-Go 350-1-2 if you want full automatic features with good WOT shifts. If you have any questions on this give me a call and I will help you out. 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 11-7 PST. (I will be working all weekend) I have built hundreds of TH350's successfully. When done right this is the best transmission for shift feel around!

Thanks for the info and i appreciate the offer to help.
i rebuilt this unit about 2 years ago using the complete B&M Transkit.
I turned the pistons down to the height that they reccommended and added the max amount of clutches.
The valve body kit I used was the one that was provided in the kit.
The problem was that after about 10,000 miles, the pump bushing rotated, moved forward pushed on the front seal and locked to the torque convertor. I was on a long trip and 200 miles from my destination and 300 miles from home
So i bought 2 cases of fluid and hit the road again, stopping every 20 minutes to add 3 quarts of fluid.
By doing this I toasted the clutches and burned the steels. So I put in an "el cheapo" clutch and steel kit from a local parts store (allomatic), and a new pump and TC.
Well it is time to get the feel back that i had before so i was going to just replace the clutches and inspect the steels and replace those as needed. The fluid is clear with no (minimal) friction material in the pan.
I wish I would have heard of the Trans-go stuff before i did anything. Seems as though B&M is not as good as i thought.
Any thoughts on what I have planned???
Thanks again
