fitting 3.73's
fitting 3.73's
Here's the deal, I've got a '92 RS that I want to put 3.73's in. The old 2.73's just aren't cutting it. I have a ten bolt rear end and I need to know what size my rear end is. Weather its a 7.5", 8.5", 8.2" or whatever. I also need to know how many splines are on the pinion. Or if somebody could provide me with the part number and brand name that would be great. also the code GHP C 119 1 is on the rear axle.

Yes, the GHP is a 2.73:1 rear ratio.
Your 10-bolt is commonly called the 7.5" but it is actually 7-5/8".
Since you have a 2.73 (2 series carrier) you need 3.73s made to fit a 2 series carrier. Summit sells the Richmond gears you need RMG-4900071. These are the ones that I have, and other than being a little noisy, they are pretty decent if you install them correctly and allow them to "break in".
You may want to think about getting a posi or locker or some sort of traction device. Since you have to have the ring and pinion setup, you might as well get a new carrier, and it might as well be a posi and a 3 series carrier, since buying 3 series gears for 3 series carriers is cheaper than buying 3 series gears for 2 series carriers like yours.
SLP sells a 3 series Torsen assembly for less then $100.
