T56 electronics hookups please!
OK, I got a '95 T/A T-56 over the weekend with all the stuff (bell, clutch, flywheel, etc. Steve Spohn is building my crossmember.
I didn't look too much into these trannys before the T-5 went boing so here's the dumb questions. No, haven't bolted it in yet or took the old one out yet.
4 electrical connections. 2 back by the tailshaft, and 1 on each side of the main body... just FMI, which is the 1. reverse lockout, 2. skip shift, 3. speedo input/output/whatever 4. backup light switch (if that's even on it).
Who has a good description of what they've done to get these to work... don't want the skip shift but the rest would be nice. That skultkie article works for bolting the tranny in but doesn't give much in the way of electrical hookup.
I'm seeing cyberdyne and dakota digital mentioned as makers of speedo conversion boxes... who's works without a problem? And where'd ya get it?
It's going in the '89 Formula with 3.45 rear gears and standard 245/50/16 tires.
Thanks in advance.

The one on the driver's side tailshaft is the speed sensor. The one near the shifter on the drivers side is the CAGS (skip shift). The one on the opposite side of that near the shifter is the reverse lockout solenoid. The one on the main case on the passenger side is the reverse light switch.
Go with the Dakota Digital box. I have the Cyberdyne and it sucks. I'm getting rid of it in the next month or so when I get my new gears. www.dakotadigital.com Part # is SGI-5. It costs $80. As for the wiring, you already had a five speed so it is much easier for you. If the connector for the reverse light switch is different for the two transmissions then just cut the old connector off and splice the wires into the new one. The reverse lockout can be done a few ways. I just wired it up so it would energize when the ignition is on. Just find a wire that is hot when the ignition is on and splice one wire into that and ground the other one. You could also wire it up so that it only energizes when you have your foot on the brake. For that just splice it into the wires that come out of the brake light switch. As for the speed sensor, it will come with directions on how to wire it up and calibrate it properly. Hope this helps you out.

The connector on the driver's side near the middle of the tranny is CAGS (skip shift). Connector on the passenger side near the middle of the tranny is reverse light switch. Connector on the driver's side near the shifter base plate is the reverse lockout. (The pigtail is $10 form GM.) And the connector under the reverse lockout is the VSS. Besides using the brake light or the ignition switch to activate the reverse lockout solenoid, you can wire the solenoid to a T-handle shifter with a momentary contact switch. B&M & Hurst make the T-handles for about $30. http://www.jegs.com/images/products/...0003_small.gif . In my 1992 T56 equipped S10, I used a hybrid 40 tooth reluctor ring from www.jagsthatrun.com and the VSS from the 1992 S10 T5 with a thicker o-ring and a spacer between the VSS hold-down bolt tab and the tranny case. The hybrid reluctor ring was made by machining the OD of the T56 reluctor ring and the ID of a 40 tooth reluctor ring for an interference fit. The two were pressed together to create a hybrid ring.

Thanks guys!!!
I already have a hurst t-handle with the switch wired in for the line lock... I might wire it in to do double duty for the reverse lockout also... can't hurt!
