4th gen torsen into 3rd

Recently got a torsen diff from a '99 z28 that i will
install in my '82 10 bolt with '90 28 spline axles.
anyone use one of these diffs?,do you like it?
do they withstand a lot of abuse?
Interestingly, the LH carrier bearing of the '99 axle was
in very bad shape-fatigue pits,scoring etc,while the
RH carrier bearing and the pinion bearings were not too
bad-never seen this before on a 10 bolt.
old gov-lock working good but i don't trust it under
abuse-spider gears look a little iffy for the power i
have.

Re: 4th gen torsen into 3rd

I have one behind my bolt on 350 TBI with 285 tires and I haven't heard any complaining. Car hooks hard, I can outlaunch nearly anything on the street. Before it was in my car it was behind a cammed LS1/T56 combo, which knowing nothing else, had to have been making at least 400 hp. Obviously it survived...

I think the ring or pinion gear will break before the diff does.

The left bearing always fails before the right. Most of the load is carried by the left bearing because the ring gear is on that side. Just be sure to get the backlash set correctly when you install it, and use Timken or other high quality bearings on it. Nothing made in China!!!

LOL..definatly don't want any chicom bearings(or any
other chicom parts) flying to pieces in my car-actually
went to the parts store and asked about the bearings
they carried and was handed one with "made in china"
on it-just about barfed right there! i always use timken
or SKF,NTN, etc if i can't get timken.
