What's stronger TH700R4 or T-5?

What tranny can handle the most power. I have an 88 GTA now with a TH-700R4 and I was thinkin about doin a T-5 swap, but my friend says a 700R4 is actually stronger. Is this a fact? Could somebody please show me a list of the kind of horsepower/torque ratios these transmissions can handle?

I hear the T-5 can handle relatively little torque, I would say the 700R4 is stronger (thats why they put em on 350's instead of the T-5's) but you'll hjave to ask somebody else by how much.

The t-5 is only rated for a max of 300 ft lbs. I think the WC T-5 can handle about 20 more. A 87 and later 700R4 stock I think can handle about 400. Don't quote me on that but it seems that is the number I remember. The 700 is a stronger transmision. That is why they only put the 700 behind the 350 instead of the t-5. You think that the lazy asses at GM could have figured out that they were being supplied with a ****ty transmission for performance vehicles.

Who makes rebuild kits for the T5 so that it can handle a nice 350?

The T-5 can handle 330 FT-LBS of torque, the 700R4 can be built to handle twice that. If you have your heart set on a manual then get a T-56. That's a 6 speed that is rated for 450 FT-LBS.
