700R4 REFUSES to shift out of 1st gear
My 700R4 is holding on to first gear while in D and OD if i manually shift it in to 2nd it shifts but then holds that gear.

Dirty valve body.
I had that happen, but, only stayed in first.
Then I got it to JUMP from 1 to 3.
I lost band on the drum.
Ungunked the valve body, too.
Good luck, I've learned alot here.
Next is recalibrating (one tranny) and also rebuilding a bad tranny

1985 Firebird 2.8 to 3.4 swap project for Smog Happy LA, CA
I had that happen, but, only stayed in first.

By any chance does it seem to go into gear rougher than usual now too? If so it confirms that the TV Valve is stuck (common cause fo failure). If the fluid doesn't exactly look perfect, you know what is next, right?

Well the tranny fluid is a brown color I am sure that is bad but i don't know why.and thank's for the above responses, I know nothing about trannies so i need all the help i can get
