I recnetly swapped out my old 700r for one out of a 1987 Z28. After making all the nessacary adjustments my car still won't shift from 1-2 or 2-3 except at extremely high rpm? I read on a previous post that there is a different method to adjust the TV cable. Is there anything else I should check or adjust? The Tranny is stock OEM with no mods. My car is a 1985 T/A with the TPI.

You will have to change to a heavier weight governor to lower the WOT shifts, you cannot lower the the WOT shifts by adjusting the TV cable without damaging the transmission.

If you are saying that it ONLY shifts at WOT then you could have the TV Cable missadjusted so that the failsafe system has licked in OR you could have a stuck Throttle Valve. Check the setting first: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal floored, press the D button and pull the cable back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does. See if that works. If it doesn't then it is time for a Pressure Gauge.
