How to check to see if the axles are straight?

I have a hunch that one or if not both of the axles in my car might be bent. What is the best way to see if they are..

Thanks

Kat

I'd imagine that you'd have to put one end of the axle in a lathe, spin it slowly, and check for a variation with a dial gauge. Did I guess right, anyone?

Hot Rod had a useful tip regarding axles... the idea was to paint white lines down new (or otherwise proven as straight) axleshafts. Then, periodically, you pull the shafts to see if the white line has twisted any. Of course twisted is different than bent...
