how much can a 700R4 handle?

I'm planning on building up a 420 stroker (500+ on engine, 700+ when I hit the blue bottle) can a 700R4 be built up to handle all of that power? or am I stuck with a turbo 350 or 400....I'd much rather have the 4 spd and retain some semblence of streetability, this will be a primarily street car that will get some heavy usage on cruise nights, and occasional trips to the strip. I planned on a 2800-3000 stall convertor to liven things up too, I have a family friend who does high perf. transmissions...any rough estimates as to what something built to handle the power would run?

Also, this is going into a 92 Z28....I'm picking up a second tranny (original has 19K miles total on it) to have built up....supposedly its a B&M built 700R4, but I don't really know (its being throwin in to sweeten a present deal) I don't have an idea what year it is, but its from an 86 camaro that was running low 10's supposedly (I think its a stretch) will I have any issues fitting it into my car, I know at some point GM changed the 700R4's is there any way to adapt the tranny, or my car to work with it? (I'm sure there is, just want to make sure)

Thanks for listening to my long questions,

Steve

No it cannot be built to handle the engine you're going to build. As far as I know no one makes an input drum or output carrier other than the factory stock GM unit, which will not hold even 550hp for long ,people trying to sell them may tell you different.
Here is one picture, I had a picture of an input drum with the input shaft twisted out of it, I lost the link to it.

Here is the picture of a broken input drum. http://www.smokemup.com/tech/transmi...00r4/700r4.cfm

what about a 200r4 are they a little stronger, would really rather have a 4spd over a 3spd auto...

I am not sure what horsepower the cars are putting out, but I have several high 10-second 700R4's out there and holding up ok. I agree that the 2004R is probably the better way too go. A 9.5 or 10" torque converter is the only way to keep the units alive even with the right parts. There are some pretty strong parts for both of these units out there. If I can be of help please call me at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST and I will answer any questions you might have concerning this.
Glad Too Help!!!
