clutch rod bushing.

is there a special way the plastic bushing that holds the slave cylinder rod to the clutch pedal goes on? The original one broke yesterday, and my clutch pedal was just flopping around, completely useless. I went to the dealership to get the bushing.. a .7 gram $5 piece of plastic.. it too broke, on the way home, it never really went on all the way. Tomorrow I'm going to wake up early enough to beat the rush hour traffic, and get 3 or 4 more bushings. has anyone changed these with success? I appreciate the help.

my mistake, it's the bushing for the push rod going to the clutch master cylinder, not the slave cylinder.

I don't have experience with the plastic bushing actually breaking BUT in the process of swapping T-5 to T-56, I had to take the bigger bushing out of the T-56 master and put in my old bushing from the T-5 master.

I don't understand how that little bit of bushing could cause that big a problem other than a little sloppiness UNLESS you don't have the clip that goes on the rod from the clutch pedal to hold the master cylinder rod in place. Putting that bitchy thing on took me several attempts.

yeah.. I guess that little bastard clip fell off. It's nowhere to be found in my car.. and the dealership sold me the wrong one.. there's no way it goes on that pivot, the damn shaft is what.. 3/8".. the hole in the clip they sold me is way smaller.

thanks for the response.

can someone give me a step by step of getting that damn bushing on without breaking it? I've gone through 4 now.. the dealership can't figure it out.. the best mechanic in houston, he can't figure it out either.. I guess my car is a just a ****ing freak of nature. There is no way any clip goes on mine. The drawing shows it clear as day, but there's absolutely no provision for one, and the only one the dealer shows wouldn't fit even if there was. I'll try to make a lines and slashes sketch of what I have.. and why it won't work.

thats what the shaft/rod on the actual clutch pedal looks like, the hash marks in the middle is a grove.

the bushing looks like this

-/------|
\ |
|
/ |
-\------|

evidently the inward tangs are supposed to catch into the groove..
and with the clutch master cylinder rod not attatched to the bushing, they do, perfectly, and tightly. but with the bushing installed in the rod, the outter tangs keep the bushing from flexing enough to get over the rod on the clutch pedal without breakin the inner tangs inward. I'm really stumped. I have NO clue what to do.. and not having my car is costing me $$$. I've already talked to the service manager at the dealership.. hell I've bought all the damn bushing and clips that were left in Houston.. Bringing it to the dealership would just garuntee that I spend a few hundred dollars to be told they can't help. If anyone has ANY suggestions, PLEASE help.. i'm at the end of my rope here.

Anthony

the drawings got messed up. there is only one grove in the rod, and the middle verticle line on the bushing belongs at the far right.. as the back of the bushing.

ive had the same problem. i was on an offramp when mine broke.

i found a "cotter" pin works well. in the year i had just the pin on, it never came off. i ended up taking it off when i bought a new master cylender. it came with a new bushing.

hope that helps
