27 or 30 spline????

27 or 30 spline????


how can you tell the differnece between the two and what would happen if you were to put a 30 spline TC on 27 spline tranny??? or the other way around???

the 27 spline will not fit the 30, and the if the 30 is installed on the 27 the car will not move. If yours is a genuine 1988 you have the 30 spline.

Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
30 spline. The 27 to 30 spline change happened in late 84. Early 1984 cars have the 27 spline 700R4 trans, while the later ones were switched to 30 spline.

the car is a 88 but the tranny is out of a 84 caprice since mine was a v6 and now a v8 i needed a new tranny. is there any number to tell kinda like on a motor block???

Unless you are good at decoding (some trans have date codes, other don't), the only true way is to pull the trans and remove the TQ conv. Then you can count the spline and be sure of it.
