Posible to remove converter with tranny in car?

Title really says it all. I want to use my good torque converter from my bad trans(in car) with my good trans(which is out of car) with my new motor(also out of car) I figure I can save a lot of time and mess if I leave the old drivetrain bolted together and do likewise with new stuff. Any thoughts?

No, but why not pull the old engine and transmission out together and take the converter out when everything's out of the car?
