Manual Standard Rear-end Ratio was 3.42.

Well, it's the same tranny that the V8s have too, so you might want to ask for gear ratios for the t5 in general.
I think 1st gear was 2.97, but I could be mistaken. Any more input guys?
I can search my diagnostic software for stuff like that and manuals and stuff, so I will get back to you on that.

Well, I think you could put some crazy rear gear ratio [4.56] with the T56 and get that od that it offers and then get decent mileage too. Sure, if you feel like spending big buxx on a T56 on a V6, go for it. But you could also build a awesome 350 for about that much. In other words, it would be worth much more of your time and money just to swap to a 350/T-5. But if you want to T56 a v6 more power to you. I like crazy customs. Try to get some mad power then send me some pics. I don't think anyone has tried a T56/v6 combo before. I think it would be cool. I don't know, put it on the bottle, and take it racin' or cruisin'! I don't care if the car has a v6 or v8 in it, they are just so darn fun to cruise in. I say don't worry about slow time slips, f-bodys are great cruisers.
[Nitrous would be cool for the strip though.] Get some short gears and bald tires and go have fun.

hmmmmm....welli have i have to research this then.........cuz i am gonna be putting in a worked 3.4 liter 6 to replace the 3.1
it will prolly have about 250 HP dry and about 350 with nitro
thanx for the info though, i just wanted to make sure a 5 speed wouldnt hurt my performance, now i know that it is something to consider

I don't think the T-56 will bolt up, i think it has a different bolt pattern. Also, i doubt you will be able to use the 6th gear. It is a VERY low gear for economy, i don't know if your V6 will have enough power at crusing speed to keep the car going without bogging. You might be able to get away with it though. You could figure it out mathmatically but i don't know the formulas.

Here are your gear ratios for ya:
1st: 3.75
2nd: 2.19
3rd: 1.41
4th: 1.00
5th: .72
These are the ratios for a T-56
1st: 2.66
2nd: 1.78
3rd: 1.30
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.74
6th: 0.50
Notice the steep 6th gear? Thats what concerns me.

Yeah, that is true guys, but he is planning on having 250 horsepower out of it. It can be done but will cost some money. I think they sell lakewood bellhousings for v6s, you could have a good chance bolting it up to that bellhousing. I think you can't bolt it up to your stock v6 bellhousing. But 250 horsepower with a shorter gear can definitely handle that much overdrive.

I am sure that 250 HP is possible, but thats peak. He needs to make sure that the amount of torque the engine puts out will be enough when he is crusing. Its like going from 1st to 5th at a low speed, you just don't do it because the engine doesn't make enough power at that speed to do anything.

ok guys, after taking my tranny class in college, i learned alot
i think if i was to bolt up the T56 to my V6, i would be able to use a 4.82 rear gear
as what would matter is the TOTAL gear ratio......that is the rear gear multiplied by the tranny gear you are in
here's my current setup:
3.75 3.42 12.83
2.19 3.42 7.49
1.41 3.42 4.82
1.00 3.42 3.42
.72 3.42 2.46
here's a T56 with a 4.82 rear gear:
2.66 4.82 12.82
1.78 4.82 8.57
1.30 4.82 6.27
1.00 4.82 4.82
.74 4.82 3.57
.50 4.82 2.41
so first gear would be the same
and 2nd through 5th i would get a nice improvement
and in 6th i would retain a nice overdrive
and i heard of a custom adapter plate to mount a T5 bellhousing to a T56........so all i else i would need to really adapt is the clutch hub............i would need to replace the clutch hub on my clutch with one that is a 26(?) spline hub........
that and get a crossmember, and my driveshaft shortened...................
all in all, if i do swap in the 3.4 engine, i will DEFINETLY look into this....................
another thing: what size (7.5?) and how many bolt (10?) is a posi/disc rear end from a 3rd gen.............cuz i will have to make sure that the 4.82 (or something similar) gear ratio is available for it, becuz i want to swap in a Posi/Disc rear end into my car
just for kicks lets see the equivelant of a 4.11 gear in the rear would be: in this case it would be a 5.79 rear gear in equation to a T5 with a 4.11:
2.66 5.79 15.4
1.78 5.79 10.31
1.30 5.79 7.527
1.00 5.79 5.79
.74 5.79 4.28
.50 5.79 2.90
all in all that would still be a decent overdrive and that'd be some nice a$$ accleration..................................
this might become my project............
