TV cable damaged?

I just bought an 89 Trans Am GTA and it seems to shift a bit late because it will 'jump' to the next gear. It also chirps 2nd when I gun it (which seems good however ). On inspecting the TV cable, it has a lot of play in the end to the throttle, and the adjustment is all the way into the housing. I'm wondering if I should grab another cable from the wreckers, or maybe get one from the dealer. Thanks guys.

it sounds like it is streched. Get a new one, they are like $45 at a GM dealer and pretty easy to replace. I got a new one and it improved the operation of the transmission drastically.
