firebird tranny leaking -- Help
firebird tranny leaking -- Help
I have a V6 89 firebird so I gues the correct name of tranny is the V6 version of the 700R4
I went to check on the tranny fluid dip stick and It showed low...There wasnt any on the dip stick...idk how low it is...but when I went to put some in...I realized the car is leaking tranny fluid
not leaking a lot ...seems like it leaks when car is started...but if the car is off for a while and just sitting...it doesnt leak anymore
My question now is...Where is the most common place for leaks??
also how hard is it to fix for a home mechanic?? (i have never messed with trannys before though)....anyone has an estimate at a local transmission shop for this type of job???

Re: firebird tranny leaking -- Help
oil pan
dip stick
front & rear seals
tranny lines
get under and take a look. clean off old oil start and fill the tranny and find the leak
as far as how hard is it to fix only the front seal needs the tranny pulled the rest can be done with the tranny in the car and its not that hard with a basic understanding of the seals and tools
so take a look and report back for more help
