quik t-56 question
alright so i got a deal on a t56 tranny out of a Dodge SRT 10 (dodge ram with a viper motor and tranny). all i need to do to make it right is to install a new 3rd gear syncro as the complaint about the tranny was issues with that gear i guess. so my question is where can i get a bell housing to make this fit and what else would i need to install in my 84 Trans am. btw the TA is already a 5spd car

Re: quik t-56 question
That's not a quick question....
You'll need to have the input shaft machined shorter and smaller (hardened steel)
Depending on your bellhousing/clutch/linkage, you may need to get an adaptor. (It will fit the stock T5 bellhousing with that adaptor)
http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/it...17/4803441.htm
The SRT Ram tailhousing doesn't have a speedo, and uses a different yoke than the regular viper. The standard viper trans is also longer than fbody T56s, so your driveshaft will need to be shortened. You can cut the output shorter to fit a Fbody tailhousing on, but you'll need to buy an older viper VSS reluctor, and find an fbody T56 internal shift linkage/shifter cup/etc.
The viper case will mount to any other T56 bellhousing (LS1 in particular). It will mount to an LT1 bellhousing also, but you'll have to swap out the input shaft completely since it's so much shorter than the viper.
If you decide on this project, I'll be glad to give you more info/help, as I've done a few conversions. Not impossible, but not easy.
