What the hell is this 700R4 part and where does it go?
It's just under 3.5" long.
My dad found this on the floor after I put the new 700R4 in. We looked in the old transmission and thought that it looked awful similar to the piece that connects the shift linkage to the plunger. I just pulled the pan on the transmission that's in the car, and that piece is already there. Before I put the pan back on and continue to live with a ****ty transmission, does anybody know what the hell this part is and where it goes? Thanks.

That looks like the thing that hooks up the TV cable.... What did you connect your TV cable to when you installed the trans? Any possibility it came from the old one?
I think that if necessary you can put it back on with the trans together and in the car fairly painlessly.
If your new trans shifts way early and soft, then that's what it is.

I'll check all of the TV linkages again, but IIRC, other than the TV cable itself, everything else is a mechanical linkage and a couple springs. I played with the TV linkage when I dropped the pan and it all seemed fine.

Well, I found the part. It's the part of the TV cable that connects to that linkage. Mine was alive and well still attached to the TV cable, so I guess the search for my problems continues.
