new to forums

I am looking at buying an 89 camaro for my girlfriend, the seller is asking $700 for the car, it is a 2.8 V6 with auto tranny. The ad states that the transmission has "problems". After test driving the car, i found that the car wont shift past 2nd gear... reverse first and second are all fine. Im not new to forums all together, so i did some reading on threads with similar stated problems, my question i guess would be, is it possible that it is just the governor gear that needs to be replaced or am i looking at buying a rebuilt tranny? 3rd gens are kinda hard to find down here for decent prices (south west florida) I dont want to have to dump too much money into this car to make it a good runner. Any input would be great, good bad or indifferent.

thank you,
John

Most likely, the 3-4 clutch pack is gone. It's gonna need a rebuild.
