lock up torque problem

well i changed my tranny in my 87 iroc and put in one from a 4.3 van.the trans works good but my torque seems like it kicks in as soon as i get into 2nd gear at any speed.i already got rid of my old one so i dont have it to look at.when i installed the shift kit i saw only one solenoid and one button lookin switch that didnt thread into anything just bolted to the valve bodie and had 2 wires plugged to it.id like to get the torque working right.i have a switch i hooked to it for now to lock it in when i get to crusing speed but5 thats aggrovating lol.any help or ideas???????

Re: lock up torque problem

Did you unplug the harness mounted to the valve body? If so, one of the pins may be bent and shorting locking the conv as soon as it shifts into second. I tweaked the plug on mine, and had the same problem. Another thing to check is the lockup solenoid itself, it may be stuck.
