SLP Torsen, Buying J/Y Rearend, which one is best?
I plan to get the SLP Zexel/Torsen differential and install it in a junkyard rearend, which ones should I look for?
The car is a 88 IROC, 5.7L / A4, headers,catback, ported plenum, K&N,nothing too serious.
It has rear discs I want to keep, without needing a prop valve.
What rearend would be the best to look for?
I'm thinking a 90/92 V6 rear mighi be best, with the 3:23 or 3:45 gear, what do you guys think?

You'll definitely need a 90-92 10-bolt rear end, as the SLP posi is for 28 spline axles, which only 1990+ rears have.

One out of a v6 car 91-92 vintage is prolly your best bet. Not only do they have less wear (usually because of less power), but they have 3.42's already installed.
Thanks guys, I thought this post was lost!
Will my disc brakes work with the V6 rear?
Isn't there a list of rearend apps on the net somewhere, to help me identify the one I need, by part number maybe?
Weren't the 3.42s more common in 5 speed cars?
Thanks!!

The V6 cars didnt have disc brakes.I thaught
With disk brakes you had 2 mandotory options
V8 and limited slip.

83 berlinetta currently 350/350 3:42 gear,2500 stal,3inch exhaust,2 1/4
exhaust manifolds,comp cam 268,performer intake

90-92 V6's had the 3.42's if the car had a manual transmission.
85-89 V6's had the 3.42's with automatic transmissions.
Yeah, the flanges are different drum-vs-disk. Disc brake axles have a square flange on the end of the tube for the backing plate. Drum brake axles have a rectangle. You might be able to cut the rectangle into a square, and drill new holes, but are you sure?
I'd say to score 90-up axleshafts from an axle, and put them in your current axle. If you want 3.42's or 3.73's, buy them and have them installed. It'll certainly be easier!

I pulled my rear out of a 92 with an automatic and it had 3.42's
Theres two numbers stamped on the outside of the ring, just divide them to make sure of the ratio. Yeah, it had drums. But most v8's had lame ratios and that would involve swapping the set (pulling the pinion) and I didn't feel like doing it.
