not the rear main seal, but the rear seal on the transmission where the driveshaft inserts into the tailshaft on the transmission. i know you have to remove the driveshaft, but how is the old seal held in place?

press or friction fit, pull the old seal and drive a new one in.

It is an interferance fit. Just drive it out W/O digging into the area where the seal sits. Then I like to coat the seal with brown Permatex and drive it in with a bushing driver larger than the seal so that it goes in square but in the car you can't do the so just take your time a drive it in a little at a time until it is in all of the way.
