Rebuilding My T5

Input shaft gear is gone as well as the counter shaft ......i counted 34 teeth on the countershaft and 21 on the input shaft ....anyone know how many teeth are on first gear of a T-5 non world class in a 83 z28.

Any other information would be helpful ..this is my first tranny rebuild

re: Rebuilding My T5

IMO I would buy a good used transmission and get a basic rebuild kit for it then go that route if it is that bad. I wouldn't even bother to rebuild it.

My transmission just went out in my 85 z28 it has over 300,000 miles on it the thing is toast and I can pick up a good 91 WC T5 for $500 which is a whole lot cheaper then rebuilding. Just my 2 cents.

I believe that would be a WC, somebody correct me if I am wrong. The only way to identify it as a WC unit for sure is to check on the tail house there should be a ID tag. Type the number in google and something should come up. Also by 1990 most not all but most T-5's were World Class units from my own understanding. And since you have a 305 I would guarantee that it is a WC.

Here is a link also for a rebuild kit. http://www.thegearbox.org/T5.html

I'd say you have been misinformed. Tags can be changed or lost. The "only" positive way is to look at the front counter shaft bearing. Look at the T5 sticky at the top of this forum, third post down. There are examples of the different bearings there.
