need help with way too early shifts
my 700r4 is shifting way too early regaurdless of how hard Im on the throttle.
If im crusing at 40 and i mash the gas it wont downshift untill the pedal almost hits the floor. when passing on the highway it wont come out of overdrive without massive amounts of throttle. when it does throw down a gear it goes right back into overdrive instantly. I have adjusted the cable so many times but its only a temporary fix untill the next time I floor it.
any suggestions? new governor springs perhaps? Tranny has lots of miles on it. Is this a common symptom before they break completely.
Any input would be greatly appreciated cause I just got a new torque converter and Id hate to put it in and get the whole thing put back together an then have the tranny pop.

Could still be a cable problem (frayed, missadjuted). Do this: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
If it still does the same thing it isn't the cable but more likely the little valve in the VB that it actuates, This valve tends to stick and is a leading cause of complaints and failures in a 700.

I just adjusted the cable that way but it didnt seem to help.
the tranny will be out of the car soon. Is there anything short of a complete rebuild that might help this problem?
can I replace that valve that the cable moves in the vb?
If the little pin thing that the cable is attached too got bent could that cause this problem?
THANKS!

It depends on whether the tranny is too far gone or not. The TransGo Shift Kit comes with a new. redesigned TV Valve and sytem to operate it. If that is your problem it will be taken care of. The cable end should move freely on the mounting tab.
