How do i adjust shift linkage.
Re: How do i adjust shift linkage.
put your front up on ramps or jackstands, chock your wheels VERY securely......put shifter into neutral....climb under car, undo the cable (drivers side) from the tranny shifter arm, manually move the arm into neutral, (all the way forward, then 3 clicks back)....make sure your shifter inside is still in neutral, then put the cable back on the shifter arm and tighten.......get in the car and make sure it goes into all gears and will only try to start in park and neutral.....if not, then try it all again......-----i pretty much just got all of that from my haynes manual.......i tried it out today and it doesnt want to go all the way into park, does anyone know what the second cable that attaches to the inside shifter is for? it seems like it is what is holding it back
Re: How do i adjust shift linkage.
That cable is the interlock that keeps the lever from moving when the key isnt in the ignition.
It's possible that the cable (actual shift cable) is streatched enough that it no longer moves the lever enough to engage park.
Try the same routine but with lever and shifter in park.
If your not describing the situation correctly it could also be that the park pawl spring is broken, sadly thats a total tear down so try it my way first and than try a new shifter cable.

alright, it looks like it bottoms out on that before fully engaging in park......it looks like i can move the whole shifter assembly back a little bit too, maybe cause the mounting bolt holes are slotted....thanks
