Better start saving more money, because $600 for Parts & Labor is not going to cut it. A Eaton limited slip is well over $400 to start as example.

Eaton Posi $445, 3.73 gears $170, inastallation kit $92, labor to install $250 to $400. If your axles are worn then they need to be replaced too. Axles, bearings and seals $270.

Summit Racing gears , install kit , and a Powertrax Lock Right locker come in at $624.85 before shipping and that doesn't include gear oil or axle bearings and seals that you should replace when you do a gear swap so everything is new .

And with that you are going to get a set of noisy gears, cheap bearings and a shim set that is hard to use.

Re: How to go about getting a posi and 3.73 gears

Eaton or Yukon (from Randy's Ring & Pinion). I had a Lock Rite, and I definately do not recommend it. The car was clunky when cornering and I couldn't see the benefit over a posi. High speed cornering was a bit unpredictable too, as you would get snap oversteer when the locker finally unlocked. Stick with a posi.

You should be able to get the gears set up for $250. Find a shop that works on a lot of 4x4s. They do this work all the time and are fast at it, so they can charge less than a shop that only does one or two a year.

i agree with the info on the lock right/powertrax locker if in a handling car

in a 1/4 mile strip car only that you can cruise the streets (not much for handling) they are a good alternative

i had one in both types of suspensions......yeah i got rid of it in my handling car

i have 1 for sale......26 spline though (power trax)

Re: How to go about getting a posi and 3.73 gears

I still have mine and would be willing to sell as well. It's for 28 spline axels though. Lock Rite, very little use (maybe 3,000 miles). I still have the manual, etc. Anyone interested can contact me at KrapfHomes@aol.com or send me a PM.

Re: How to go about getting a posi and 3.73 gears

Power Trax (now owned by Richmond) makes the Lock Right and the No-Slip. The Lock Right is good, the No- Slip is usually junk. I can probably sell the Lock Right to these guys if they have the money. I just wanted to be sure that it is a Lock Right and not the No-Slip.

I'm looking at the owner's manual right now. Powertrax Lock Right.

Im thinking it may be easier to just get a 4th gen rear end.

Re: How to go about getting a posi and 3.73 gears

You'll have to change the rear wheels to make a 4th gen rear work. With stock 3rd gen wheels the 4th gen rear will make the tires stick out past the wheel lips on the quarter panels, which is not legal in any state I know of.

4th gen rears also won't work with drum brakes, so you'll have to convert to disc if you have drums. This means new e-brake cables and hardware, new master cylinder, and new combo valve.

Cost wise it's probably cheaper to build what you've got. Hassle wise, if cost isn't an object, the 4th gen rear is easier for someone who can't set up their own gears.
