Installing New Gears, Quick Question??

I am getting 3:73's installed right now and I leave for college in 3 days. The guy installing said he would need 2 days for the gears, which would be after he gets off work in the evening. Well, he called last night and left a message that he needs to order another part so the gears won't wear out. Anyways I was hoping to get a quick answer as to how far along he is, how much work do you think is still left to be done. I'm guessing the gears are already in, but he still needs to install this one part, also I ordered the complete overhaul kit by Richmond, guess I should have ordered the deluxe kit.
