Sorry, but i couldnt read the first post because some idiot closed it or something, my question was my friend is building a worked 355 motor pushing 429 hp at the crank. He's using a th350 tranny,w/streetfighter torque converter, He has 2 rearends readidly available
1) 7 1/2 10 bolt w/ 3:73 and posi unit
2) 7 1/2 9 bolt w/3:73 from SLP and limited slip differential, which rear could handle the 420 hp the crank will be pushing, thanks

Well, I'm no guru, but I have always read that the 9 bolt rear is slightly stronger than the 10 bolt, ecpecially the 7.5" 10 bolt.
BTW, in the 9 bolt rear end, the 3.73 gears are really 3.70, 10 tooth pinion on a 37 tooth ring gear.

It wasn't locked, it was moved from the body/interior board to the trans board. It should be on both boards and my answers are there.

EDIT - I am not sure what that is all about??? Anyways, below is what I posted.
The 9 bolt is stronger than the 10 bolt by far! It has 4 pinion (spider) gears and 2 side gears vs 2 & 2 in the 10 bolt. The 9 bolt has axle retaining flanges vs C clips. The 9 bolt can be serviced for longer life, the 10 bolt can't.
I now have parts available for 9 bolts (new carriers and gear sets, - other stuff is coming soon). They are not as cheap as 10 bolt stuff, but they are a lot cheaper (and lighter) than a 9 inch (or 12 bolt) and much stronger than a 7.5 (or 7.625) 10 bolt. I have been running a 9 bolt behind my big block (500hp 520lbft) for almost 3 years now with 1.72-1.75 60 ft times. So have other people. I can get ratios from 3.2x to 4.1x.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 carriers in stock for 9 bolts
