Dropping tranny?

I am dropping my t-5 but I have never done it before. I am wondering if anyone could tell me the step to removing this oversized paper weight and if there where any illustrations to go along with it.

Thank you
Chris

Re: Dropping tranny?

its pretty straight forward, just remember to atleast pull dizzy cap if not your whole dizzy so it doesnt crash into the firewall and do disconnect your vss wire or speedo cable, unbolt the slave cylinder, torque arm and drive shaft, get a jack with a block of wood of wood underneat the trans and remove the cross member and remove the 6 engine to trans bolts, if you let the jack down you can get to the top 2 first. then ease her down.

Okay I have an 87 auto trying to replace the flexplate now. Few Questions:
* What is a dizzy?
* I have removed all but:
1) The black (vaccum?) tube going into the pass. side of the trans
2) The two tubings going in to the pass. side of the trans. I believe they are the ones that head up to the radiator.

Now I have two jacks holding up the trans. one just under the drive train and another under the trans pan. I can't get the stupid trans to move at all.

So what am I doing wrong?

1. black tube on the passenger side should be the TV cable.
2. the light colored (if not really dirty) tubes are for the trans cooler.

Remove all of those

Unhook TV cable from carb
Remove flexplate cover Remove flexplate to torque converter bolts
Support tailshaft with jack
Remove trans crossmember
Remove distributor cap
Tilt engine back as far as possible
Remove top two engine to trans bolts (at this point get your trans jack under it or somethin else to lower it down unless you wanna catch 200 lbs. of tranny),
Remove all the lower engine to trans bolts.

That SHOULD get the trans out, I typed that from my memory of swapping mine out a year and a half ago when the old trans blew up, someone post up if you think I missed soemthing, also a Haynes or Chiltons manual will be nice to have around while doing this.

I always remove the trans from the bellhousing first, then remove the bullhousing.

you want to pull the shifter out before you do anything though.

The T5 is pretty light, about 70lbs empty.

Be prepared to fight the upper bell housing bolts.

Cramped space, three-foot extension. Nightmare for me personally.
