5 Speed question...

So this is my first car with a 5 speed. Am I just ig-nernt or am I not supposed to have some sort of dipstick to check the fluid level?

No, no dipstick. But there is still fluid inside that needs to be changed every so often.

To check the fluid in your 5-speed you have to get under the car and there is a plug about 3/4 of the way up on the passenger side of the tranny. It has a square head on it. Stick your finger in the hole and the fluid should be right up to the bottom of the hole.
