Does anyones tranny act like this?
Does anyones tranny act like this?
I bought this car 305tpi and the owner said he had a shift kit put in a year ago and a B&M 700r4 downshif 3/4 throttle blues kit part #70237 from Summit racing magazine. I'm not sure really seams like it though cause of the nice hard quick shifts. Anyway the tranny is a 700r4 and I have 3.23 posi gears and in DRIVE normal driving my
1st to 2nd 12mph/1700rpm
2nd to 3rd 30mph/2500rpm
3rd to 4th 50mph/2500rpm
in order to shift into 3rd gear i have to go over 2500rpm or 30mph otherwise I can drive in 2nd all day and in 3rd gear I have to go atlestl 50 in order for 4th overdrive to engage or if I get the rpms over 2500 again
Now also at anytime in DRIVE if I let up on the gas it will instantly start dragging/ slowing down like say a manual trans in 2nd say accelerating to 40 then letting off the gas and letting go BUT in OD Shifter on the floor my shift points are the same, but now if I let up on the gas the tranny will act as if in neutral and the rpms will drop to 1000, and I can coast. Ive never had any problems and ive had the car for almost two years now and love the way it is. In odmode i get to accel then let up and coast gas mileage is awesome this way. When i put shifter in D and drive WOT my 1st to 2nd at 25mph/3500rpm chirpin tires 2nd to 3rd at 60mph/4200rpms little chirp. Now I might be mistaken and all 3rd gens do this! anybody have any ideas of if normal has shift kit and if so what kind? any input at all thanks

My shift points at light throttle(no kit and 3.73s)
1-2 8mph @ 1750
2-3 15mph @ 1750
3-4 25mph @ 1750
WOT
Spin through 1st
1-2 25 @ 4000 spins and shoots sideways
2-3 55 @ 3900 chirp
In D, the tranny will not disengage like in OD when you let off the throttle. When in OD, you let off the gas and it drops to 1000rpms, as soon as you hit the gas you are in 3rd gear and usually go directly to 4th depending on how you hit the gas. What you describe is normal for all 700s.

The engine braking in 'D', 2 or 1 is normal.
To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
