Tremec 5 Speed Swap and Computer

I plan on running a pretty high performance 383 engine as soon as I have the time and money to build it. I also plan on getting the Tremec 5 Speed Transmission to replace my auto. Will this swap affect my computer? Will I have to get a chip or will I need a whole new computer or can I just leave it alone?

The auto computer has a few changes in it because of the torque converter and manual chips have some idle settings. If you were staying with the same engine and just changing the tranny then you could use the same chip, but you might get a SES light from the lack of a torque converter. You, however, are changing the whole engine to a 383 so you'll need custom chip work done anyways, so you can take care of the trans stuff then.

The computer has no feedback from the torque converter circuit, so you wont get an SES light.

The best custom chips are the ones you do yourself. Otherwise some people have had good luck with Ed Wright at http://www.fastchip.com/
