Computer doesn't know which gear? (Long)

OK Here's the deal. I had a transmission rebuilt for my 87" Formula 3 years ago. The transmission that was in the car was a turbo350 so I had the transmission shop install a 700 that I had in my junkyard. Come to find out(from this board) that all 700's are not the same. The transmission shifts good(and has taken alot of abuse) but the computer doesn't know which gear it is in once it hits fourth. When you're watching the data once it goes to fourth the computer says fourth then second then fourth ect.... This of course makes it to where the TCC never locks up. Is there anyway to rewire this thing so that the computer gets the right signal? Or should I just be hunting the right transmission?

BTW: The transmission that is in it is out of an 84 Caprice cop car. It has been upgraded internally(pump, clutches, ect...) and has a 2200 stall converter in it.

The 700r4 gives your computer feedback? I would guess the internal wiring is different than a stock tranny for your car. The computer merely locks and unlocks the tc as it sees fit(it grounds a wire). No feedback needed.

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

Something has to tell it what gear it is in, other wise it would lock up at the same speeds no matter what gear you were in as long as the TPS reading was low enough...right? Anyway the test were run on an OTC 4000 scanner and it would show what gear the car was in until it hit fourth. That's when it would show 4th then 2nd then 4th ect.... I know that the way the TV cable was set up on a TPI car was different, which required a little spring loaded adator at the TB, but apparently so was some of the interal wiring. Mine has three wire going into a four pronged plug, but I by no means know which does what.

On the valve body there is an oil presure switch that turns on when the tranny goes in to overdrive. That switch could be bad or the wiring to it could have come loose. You need to drop the pan and check it.

The simplest thing to do is order bothe the internal wiring for the car you have along with the pressure switches and install them in your tranny. The computer does need input as to what gear you are in for various reasons.

Thanks guys. I was hoping that there was a way to make this thing go. I'll check with the local dealership tomorrow. Neither of you wouldn't happen to have any part numbers handy do you?

Thanks for the help!!!
