*700R4 problems*

I have a slight problem with my tranny. When at full throttle and manually shifting through the gears, the tranny will shift fine from 1 to 2 but it will NOT shift from 2 to 3 at full throttle. When I let the tranny shift on it's own, it shifts fine at full throttle through all gears. It just does this when I'm manually shifting. I was thinkin' my torque converter might be going out but I can't understand why it would be doin' this ONLY when manually shifting through the gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you pushing the RPM's higher than they would normally be at with an automatic shift? The 3-4's are a weak opint in these and perhaps you are pushing them past their limit with the stock calibration?

If you taking the 2-3 shift near 5,800-6,000 rpm or more, then the 3rd gear feed hole (too small!) will not overcome the centrifugal force of the check ball bleed capsule. The fluid just goes by (the check ball) instead of pushing checkball on to its seat. The stock 3rd gear feed hole size in most cases (along with a small main boost valve, cross leaks, etc.) will not let enough oil into the 3-4 pack to bring it on. The Trans-Go Shift kit (larger 3rd gear feed hole) along with larger boost valves will give you the results you want. If you plan on going higher than 6,200 rpm, then I would block the checkball capsule off (inactivate it). This will eliminate the 2-3 WOT shift problem forever.

The transmission has the B&M shift kit in it. I don't know if it has a larger 3rd gear fee hole or larger boost valves or anything like that though. When manually shifting, I shift at about 5,000 RPMs ... well, in that area anyhow.

A) NO Shift Kit

B) GIGANTIC feed hole!
