t-56 electric and speedo plugs
t-56 electric and speedo plugs
alright. i am about to finish my t-56 from a t-5 swap. i really need help and as much info as i can get. when removing the t-5 the only things that i had to remove was the speedo cable and 1 plug. i have an 87 z28.
as far as i know i need a reverse lock out, backup lights, vss stuff(i have no idea), and clutch starter switch.
i am assuming that a starter switch is not needed since i am swapping from a t-5. ok, so what was the plug that i unplugged from the t-5? obviously the speedo cable from the t-5 will not work. what EXACTLY will i need to make my speedometer work, please be very specific. reverse lock out, did i already have that with the t-5? what is reverse lockout? back up lights, should those work? i really really need help with someone describing exactly what all of this is.
one i know what i need to do the job i also need to know which plugs on the t-56 are for these things? please help

I just did this. I went to Pep Boys, they have an aisle with a large assortment of factory style electrical connectors.
For the reverse light switch I used an "Engine Fan Sensor Socket" Conduc-tite part #85166.
For the reverse lockout solenoid I used a "Mixture Control Solenoid Connector" Conduc-tite part # 85134.
One of the connectors fit fine, and on the other one I had to remove a very small piece of plastic and then it fit fine. I forget which one.
Thirdgens did not come equipped with a reverse lockout feature. I enabled the one on my transmission. I wired it so that it gets power from the brake switch when I hit the brake pedal. The other wire from the solenoid I grounded.
I'm still working on the speedometer calibration. I'll probably get the Dakota Digital calibration box, but I haven't done so yet. I don't know what you'd have to do with a mechanical speedo.
Oh, and that other plug you removed from your T5 was probably for the reverse light switch.
Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, sorry - the reverse lockout solenoid prevents the operator from shifting into reverse while driving at speed. One 4th gens the ECM activates and deactivates the solenoid. Our cars never had this feature, so if you want to use the solenoid you have to wire it to a button or switch in place of the ECM.
You don't have to enable this feature. There are plenty of people that just muscle past the reverse lockout. it isn't that difficult.

i have the original plugs from the transmission because i bought an lt1 combo with all the wiring that i need, but when i seperated the tranny from the engine i lost track of the plugs. they are still there i just don't know which ones are which. i am leaving out the lt1 for now, but i should be able to use the plugs right? can you tell me what they look like, do they have identification on them, like numbers, what color wires go into the plugs. and also which plug do they plug into(right or left side) and how monay on each side?
