Convertor Staying Locked??

I just recently swapped in my stock convertor and I get a vibration at low speed off the line and it really bogs until the rpm's get up.
It seems the convertor is staying locked--it idles really bad now and when at crusing rpm I have touched the brakes and rev's don't jump up.
Does this sound like the convertor staying locked up?

Bob

L/U won't occur, even with a malfunctioning solenoid, until you are in 2nd gear. That is the source of oil for the solenoid which in turn controls the L/U valve in the pump.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Just for grins, unbolt the converter and push it all the way back into the pump. Now start the car and see if it still idles rough. If it does then it is some sort of engine problem, perhaps a vacuum leak. If it is a leak then you may not even be locking up and that would explain why it doesn't release with the brake.
