Car dies when put into gear after Tq Converter install
Hi guys,
I tried searching for a solution first but couldn't find anything that exactly matched my symptoms.
Here's what I'm looking at:
- 350 motor with a FIRST injection setup
- Rebuilt 2004R with only a couple of thousand miles on it
- The car drove fine with the old converter in place, but it was too high of a stall (I bought it back when the car was carb'd)
- I had a shop install a Street Edge converter from Edge Racing that I purchased last Oct (It's been sitting up until now). It's a roughly 2600 stall.
The problem:
The car idles and revs fine in park, but will die right away when put into gear (The shop told me that it's like you were popping the clutch in a manual car). They unplugged the TCC and it's still doing this.
Any thoughts on what else could be causing this?
Andre (I think that's his name) from Edge told me that's extremely rare that the converter itself could be faulty, and instead mentioned that it could be an installer error, such as an o-ring on the input shaft being damaged, missing, etc...he did say that something could have happened to it while being shipped or from sitting for over 6 months, but that it wasn't likely.
Right now the shop is planning on installing the old converter and having me send back the new one, as they're at a loss as well. Good thing I'm not paying typical labor rates for this...

Ah, sorry, didn't know if that was important. It's the 330 HP GMPP crate motor:

I've got 3.42 gears as well if that matters.

Did the shop add fluid to the converter before installation? This can ruin a new converter very quickly and if thats what happened don't be suprised if the shop doesn't admit it and Edge doesn't warranty it.

Camshaft doesn't look too aggressive. If you have a very aggressive camshaft and a low stall converter, the camshaft can stall the converter at very low rpm. If the converter is stalled and the vehicle isn't moving, the engine will die.
