If I get a 4th gen rear my stock wheels will stick out a bit, right? SO... if I get a set of 4th gen wheels will the different offset correct this and get the wheels back under my car?

Yes.

Problem is, 4th gen wheels don't fit on the fronts of these cars, unless you add spacers; so you'll have 2 different kinds of wheels. Unless you're planning on buying aftermarket ones, in which case you would just get 2 with one offset and 2 with the other.

Not really. I was just looking into a new rear and i really like the look of the SS wheels. I was just curious how it might work out.

The 4th gen rear is 3 inches longer overall so that means the tires are each 1.5 inches farther out than they would be with a 3rd gen rear. If you buy the spacers for the front and install a 4th gen rear end, you can buy any wheels that are designed for 4th gens (aftermarket companies sell a lot more 4th gen wheels than 3rd gen wheels!!) and they will fit properly in the wheel wells.

So when I started looking for some 17x9s, I found a bunch of 4th gen ones that I liked but none of them were made for stock 3rd gen offsets. I also had the 2.77 rear axle so I combined my plans and got a 4th gen 3.42 rear axle and solved one problem and half of another one. All I need is spacers and I'm set for 4th gen wheels. I just ran out of money for this year..... .

As for how the wheels look with the 4th gen rear axle and 3rd gen wheels, check out my website. I think the main page has a picture that you can see a little bit of how they stick out slightly. I guess it doesn't look all that bad but I don't like it very much and am planning on some 50mm offset (4th gen) 17x9 5-spokes with 275/40/ZR17s as soon as possible (Spring).
