Sound from the transmission

Back story: One night , i let my freind drive my car, i get it back, and it now makes a noise accelerating form a stop hard, or shifting form 1st to 2nd when im accellerating hard.

He said he rev'd in N, and shifted to d. Anyways.

I'll reiterate the story a bit more.

Basically, when im at a stop, and nail it, the transmission makes a clunk noise. and i feel it shake a little bit from the gear shift lever. ( its an auto, i just hold on to the gear lever the whole time, habit form driving other standard cars). When still getting on it pretty hard, and it shifts from 1st to second (if i dont let off the gas during the shift) it makes the same clunk/shake.

Im thinking/hoping its a trans mount. Anyway i can check this before i go to replace it? Doesnt seem to hard, but id just liek to check it first.

If that doesnt sound like the issue, what may it be?

Not 100% sure on which trans i have. Car is an 85 z28. original trans. It has OD.

Yeah, sounds like a tranny mount. And yes, you can check that

Re: Sound from the transmission

Raise the car up on jackstands, then lift up the transmission with your jack a bit (put a piece of 2 x 4 between the jack and pan). As you lift the transmission, check the mount on the crossmember for a rip. You should be able to tell if it's broken because the mount will be ripped into 2 pieces. If it's broken, you should probably replace it with a polyurethane mount so it doesn't happen again. These mounts are notorious for breaking on our cars.
