NO full WOT upshifts... WTF?

Ok, I know the 700R4 won't go into OD at WOT, thats common knowledge. But, the last couple days, mine is not shifting out of ANY gear at WOT, it just sits there at 4K RPMs and holds until i let off a little, and is VERY prone to kicking down and revving past the engine's useful powerband.. and staying there.... WTF? I'm sure my TV(?) cable needs adjusted but still, it never was like this before. Any comments/input outside of autos suck? I lost to a 1995 V6 mustang tonight because of this!! (it just had a flowmaster and a K+N and i used to stomp him every single time, freind of mine)

"it just sits there at 4K RPMs"

Fix the engine problem. Even if the tranny slips it will go into HIGHER RPM than you are used to not stay at a lower one.

To be sure the TV is right do this: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
