is this a bad idea??

My tranny fluid is kinda brown, and it hangs up a little in the 1-2 upshift. I plan on changing the fluid and adding a corvette servo real soon, but some people have been telling me its a bad idea to change the fluid. Any input?

If the fluid is brown and smells burnt, forget the servo and start saving your money for a new tranny, your clutches are fried.

I've heard the same thing, that if your tranny fluid is really nasty then you could blow the tranny if you change the fluid. But that's in extreme cases, such as if the fluid had never been changed before. Generally, changing your fluid would be a good idea, especially when it starts turning brown. While there's a small chance that changing the fluid will accelerate the death of your tranny, there's a better chance that changing the fluid now will fix your 1-2 shift problems and save the tranny.
