How can I find out if I have a posi?

The car is not running now.
Is there a tag on the rear end or something in the vin that will tell me.

Nothing in the VIN, and only the 9-bolts have tags on the rear. You need the RPO codes out of your center console. G80 is the code for positraction. If the sticker is missing, jack up the rear with the tranny in neutral, and spin one of the tires. If the other tire spins in the same direction, its a posi. If it spins in the opposite direction, its an open. However, locker type posis will always spin in the opposite direction... The best way is to open the cover and look, if you know what you're looking for.

Not true. The '82 factory posi 10-bolt in my sig has the tag on the cover bolt.

But, lack of a tag is not a reliable sign that it is open.
