TH350 Converter Issues
TH350 Converter Issues
I'm working on getting a motor and tranny in my car, I've got a TH350 with a 2400 stall converter I recently purchased from a local speedshop. I can't get the converter to seat properly and I've tried everything (putting it in with the trans vertical and horizontal with a few hours of wiggling, turning and swearing at the TC). I'm familiar with the 3 clunk rule but after what would appear to be 3 clunks I'm still a good 1/4 off from being properly seated (zero clearance between the flexplate and the TC when bolted up to the motor). I've heard new converters can be a little tricky to seat but this seems excessive. Any tips or tricks?

Re: TH350 Converter Issues
lay the tc down vertical stick a phillips head screw driver in one of the tc bolt holes and spin it while applying pressure i've found this helps sometimes with the ones that just dont want to go in

Re: TH350 Converter Issues
If he has wiggled for hours I do not think patience is what he is lacking.
Are you having trouble with the flexplate to converter clearance or is your converter not seating all the way? I would guess that your converter is all the way in, and your flexplate is off.
I believe the rule of thumb is that if you can stick your finger between the converter and transmission pump body than it is not fully in. How much clearance does yours have there?

Re: TH350 Converter Issues
So I busted out the vernier and started measuring a few things, long story short the guy who rebuilt my tranny put the front pump gear in backwards. Got the tranny back last night and the converter went on with no problem.
