What do you think about a shiftkit?
What do you think about a shiftkit?
Look at the mods in my sig. I have a 700-R4 and the car has 120k. Do you think a shiftkit is worth it. Also what kind: B&M, Transgo, etc.

It can't hurt, use only the Trans-Go type of kit. Is your transmission still shifting ok?, and is the fluid still in good shape?, otherwise the kit will not fix glazed clutches/band. The worst case scenario is you will have the correct valve body parts, boost valves, and Corvette servo and that could be used in the future in your rebuild.
It seems to shift alright, I just thought it would make the shifts firmer and improve slipping after heating up.

My Basic test is not the quality of the shift but whether once in each gear, if it will hold under throttle (not enough to kick it down) and also if the oil looks OK (maybe not cherry red but not black and a rotten odor).
TransGo is the only way to go and if you are after firmer shifts then you want their Reprogramming Kit as opposed to their Shift Kit (trademark). It will fix the primary control problems that lead to failure and it will give you increased control over the tranny.
Back before I was a true believer in TransGo, I worked at a tranny shop that exclusively used them. My Future Wife's car, an '83 Monte Carlo with a 250C, slipped going into 3rd pretty bad. I decided to put the kits to the test. The car had 70K on it and I know it had burnt clutches but it was going to have to come out anyways, right? Well one Saturday I put it in and to my suprise the car felt like it was brand new! On top of it, the tranny never did come out and we sold it with OVER 140K to someone we knew and I never heard of them having tranny problems. That was when my opinion started to change! On yours you do have to take into account that the Input Sprag has a finite life and could go at any time but as Pro pointed out, you would already have the VB set, just do a 'rebuild' and you are on your way.

I too perfer the TransGo. I have seen the things B&M does, and I have seen the things TransGo does, and as a GM Certified transmission tech, TransGo gets two thumbs up.
Like the others mentioned, if your tranny is already ailing, then this isn't a miracle cure, but the TransGo can prolong the life of your tranny. We don't install them at the dealership, but w/ the limited installing I have done, I was impressed.
