Can this be done....

My 2.73 rear is ready for an upgrade. I searched to find that 91-92 Maros and Birds with a V6 and a manual tranny......have a 3.42 drum rear. so would this be a direct swap? how much is involved in this project?

Direct swap. Don't forget to swap the speedo gears while you are at it.

Is 91-92 (Maros and Birds), the only years the 3.42 drum rear was standard with a manual V6. Also how do you change the speedo gear?

I think earlier years of firebirds and camaros had the 3.42 with the v6.
The 1990 transmissions or at least the autos have vehicle speed sensors in the tailshaft of the tranny so the computer needs to be informed of the rear end change to keep the spedo working correctly. If you know anyone with a chip burner it is relativly simple to do. If you dont know anyone that can reprogram the chip I know a guy that can do it for you.
