art carr 700r4 no foward or reverse suddenly
hey guys i was fixing something else here today went on a test drive and seemed to loose all ranges in my tranny..
I rebuilt the tranny about 6 months ago with all HD parts. i realized the pump is not operating. do you guys have any way of telling if its converter or the pump. it all happened suddenly havent had any problems until now..
also what stall speed is good for a jeep wrangler with a 5.7 tbi 700r4 and 4:10 gears.. or point me to the equasion?

well that was it (the pump) any idea what would cause it to shatter?? are my 1-2 shifts to hard? im chirping 37" tires? with a locker in the rear.. I softened up the shifts this time think that was the deal?

It is Art Carr....... are my 1-2 shifts to hard? YEAH!!! im chirping 37" tires? Even a TH400 will not last last this way. The breakage of the rotor/slide setup is not from hard shifts, just to much line pressure at low throttle openings, no accumulated shifts. This is typical ART CARR JUNK. I have torn down somewhere around 75-100 of his units over the years, and have not seen ONE GOOD ONE. I am surprised it lasted this long. The HD parts are probably still good, just take out the ART CARR stuff as far as blocked accumulation, Red Eagle type clutches, Kevlar band, way to big 2nd gear feed hole sizes, etc. Look at what I use and you can make this unit last. I would say more, but.......

I'd like to go off on a rant myself. This should be dependable. Now I'm not a tranny guy but I installed the "beast sun shell" among most of the other heavy duty parts. I think they just take a stock tranny and make it slam shift and that's it. Granted this was my first rebuild when I bought the tranny the sunshell was broke. This time I replaced 1-2 accumulator spring. I swear it's a coil spring off a buick. The piston was beat like it couldn't handle that big of spring. I put a calmer spring in there and everything seems ok. But if I run my tranny in manual it still chirps the tires. I think I should have replaced that steel plate well I forget the name.
Now I'm poking around for a stock 700 and I'm going to build it up again myself. I can't be miles into the woods and loose a pump again. Also I'm still using 10 vane pump not the 13. I'm sure it wouldn't last a week if I had the 13 in there
